Funeral services for Wayne Keeler, 82, of Wayne were held Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at the First Baptist Church in Purcell. Interment was at the Lexington Cemetery under the direction of the Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.
Mr. Keeler passed away on February 9, 2024.
Wayne Austin Keeler was born December 11, 1941, the seventh child out of 12 born to John Albert Keeler and Beatrice Sewell (Jones) Keeler.
Wayne moved to the Lexington area and met the love of his life, Wanda Jean Berglan, at The Dairy Boy. They began dating, fell in love and married June 13, 1964. The couple raised two amazing sons and spent 59 years happily married.
Wayne joined the Air Force at a young age and was honored to serve his country. He worked 30 years at Tinker Air Force Base as an Air Frame and Equipment Specialist, before retiring to farm and do custom hay baling.
When Wayne wasn’t working, he loved to hunt, fish, and spend time at the lake. He just enjoyed being outside, whether that was farming, baling hay or working cattle. He loved to golf and his favorite hobby was following his grandchildren around to all their activities. He cherished time spent with his sons hunting and fishing.
He was active in the community and served on the District 8 Rural Water Board, the American Farmers and Ranchers Insurance Board, Wayne Rural Fire Department Board and was a 53 year Mason.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Beatrice Keeler; his sisters, Joy Lynn, June Reis, Johnnie Faye May and Mattie Bush; his brother, Marvin Keeler; and his brothers-in-laws, Jim Lynn, Bob May, Lloyd Bush and Leon Vaughn.
Wayne is survived by his lovely wife, Wanda, of the home; his sons, Bartley Keeler and wife, Kathy, of Goldsby and Brian Keeler and wife, Jennifer, of Wayne; his brothers, Bruce Keeler and wife, Elaine, of Burneyville, Keith Keeler of Anderson, Texas, and Johnny Keeler and wife, Marla, of Tuttle; his sisters, Mary Vaughn of Perry, Elaine Harris of Norman and Jean Corley and husband, Rick, of Moore; his sister-in-law, Mary Lou Keeler of Purcell and his grandchildren who he cherished, Harrison Keeler, Hayden Keeler, Kaylee Keeler and Addison Keeler and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
