A fungus is attacking the huge tree on the northeast corner of the McClain County Courthouse.
County commissioners are afraid the towering tree might fall over and have voted to remove the tree before it can fall on the courthouse and do serious damage.
Courthouse custodian Benny Akerman measured the base of the tree and it was 11’ 3” in diameter and is reported to be over 100 years old.
The removal price is reported to be $6,500.
