Storm dumps 2.4” of rain in Purcell

During the tornado outbreak April 27 three of the 26 tornadoes in the state struck in McClain County.

McClain County Sheriff Landy Offolter reported two mobile homes north of Dibble sustained minor damage.

He said a pair of two-story homes in the Manor Lake neighborhood (south of SH 9 at Western) have major damage and six homes in Goldsby have roof damage.

During the storm, 2.4” was recorded in Purcell bringing the total here for 2024 to 13.35”.

Washington recorded 1.33” and Byars picked up 2.36” in the storm.

Oklahoma City has recorded 7.21” so far this year.

The town of Sulphur sustained major damage and at least four people were killed. Two of those were in Holdenville including an infant, one in Sulphur and one near Marietta.

Additional storms are predicted for Wednesday through Saturday as the stormy month of May kicks off.
