Sticks out like a sore thumb

I’ve had people inquire with me about the east-west traffic light at Canadian and Washington.

Let’s be honest, there isn’t much north-south traffic at that intersection yet the light is red going west or east a lot of the time.

I get caught going and coming to and from Lexington and it’s annoying to me, like it is for others.

One of my late father’s favorite sayings was, “It sticks out like a sore thumb.”

Well, turns out he was correct because for the past several days I’ve had a sore thumb and it sure does get in the way of doing things.

I was driving down Main Street in Norman recently when I drove past the spot where Baskin-Robbins 31 flavors of ice cream was located across the street from Norman High School.

I recalled back to my childhood one summer day when I was out with my grandfather, Carl Flow.

He had a sweet tooth and by 10 in the morning it was time for a snack.

I was 12-years-old when we pulled into Baskin-Robbins that day with strict instructions.

“Tell them you want a lemon custard malt with a little bit of chocolate in it.”

I went in and told the ice cream man what I needed.

He came right back with, “Son, I don’t know who you are but you’ve got to be Carl Flow’s grandson.”

The man had a reputation.

To this day, I wish I would have at least tasted it.

It got to 2011 hot on Friday.

When it rises to around 110 or so I have to resort to the lawn sprinkler on my compressor for it to work.

That’s where we were Friday afternoon.

Awful.
