Graveside services for Jacob Nathaniel Madden, 87, of Lindsay were held Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at the Washington Cemetery. Services were under the direction of the Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.
Mr. Madden, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at 87. Jacob was born in Cleveland County on December 20, 1936, to Nelis and Opal Madden. Mr. Madden left the world peacefully on Sunday, March 3, 2024 in Lindsay, Okla., at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was the first of 10 siblings. Jacob retired from the City of Purcell after 10 years.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Vernie Madden of Lindsay, Okla.; eight of his nine children, daughter, Loretta Hailey of Maysville, Okla., son, Johnny Madden of Lindsay, Okla.; son, Tony Madden and spouse, Phyllis, of Slaughertville Okla., daughter, Betty Hightower of Lindsay, Okla., son, Calvin Madden of Wayne Okla., daughter, Sandra Hendricks and spouse, Travis, of Lindsay, Okla., daughter, Joyce Sheehy and spouse, Pat, of Lindsay, Okla., son, Jason Madden and spouse, Dean, of Lindsay, Okla., and his daughter-in-law, Debra Madden of Wayne, Okla.; his 30 grandkids; 35 great-grandkids and two great-great-grandkids.
Jacob was a man of simple pleasures and profound love for his family. His passion for watching the Oklahoma Sooners was only surpassed by his devotion to his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His face lit up with joy whenever he was in their presence, cherishing every moment spent together.
Jacob could be found in his garden, tending to his plants with care and dedication. He would often be seen on his trusty tractor, taking his grandkids on adventurous rides through the fields, sharing stories and laughter along the way. Jacob had a sweet tooth and was known for sneaking cookies from the cookie jar.
In addition to his family and hobbies, Jacob enjoyed a life filled with hard work and outdoor adventures. He spent countless hours hauling hay, fishing in his favorite spot by the lake and hunting in the woods. His hands were calloused from years of dedicated work in construction, a testament to his strong work ethic and determination.
Jacob will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His kindness, warmth, and unwavering love will forever remain in the hearts of those he leaves behind. May his soul rest in peace, and may his memory continue to bring comfort and joy to his beloved family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nelis and Opal Madden; three brothers, Andy, Bill and Frank Madden; four sisters, Pat Chronister, Wanda Madden, Judy White and Betty Thompson; son, Glen Madden; son-in-law, Larry Hailey, and grandson, Micheal Madden.
