Although for some it might seem longer, the Main StreetScape project hit day number 79 on Tuesday.

Project managers told a small group of Main Street merchants and professionals Tuesday the north side completion date is set for August 21.

They reported there are still 190 days remaining for the project tentatively set for total completion in mid-November.

In the last three days 69 of our 77 counties have had rain including .05” in Washington and .14” in Byars.

Okemah was swamped measuring 4.65” of rain.

One gauge in Midwest City recorded just under 2.5” with lots of two and three inch totals.

But that isn’t the case for Purcell.

Purcell has been shut out with yards beginning to turn brown rather than the nice, lush green we’ve enjoyed for the most part of the summer.

Oklahoma City has recorded 27.13” at Will Rogers World Airport.

Purcell has measured 25.60” this year with the normal year-to-date 23.7.

The problem for Purcell, however, there hasn’t been anything to measure since July 11.

Couple that with the intense heat and you’ve got the recipe for parched yards.

And that’s exactly what we are seeing.

Fourth District Congressman Tom Cole will be in Purcell today (Thursday) at the Heart of Oklahoma Chamber of Commerce community coffee from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the chamber office.

Cole will be giving a status report on activities in Washington, D.C. and visiting with constituents.
