Christmas parade on mark

A tip of the hat to Heart of Oklahoma Chamber of Commerce Director Elisabeth Baker and the entire Heart of Oklahoma for putting on one of the best parades, holiday or otherwise, the town has seen in at least the last 35 years on December 14.

The annual Heart of Oklahoma Christmas parade was a hit to both young and old with Purcell’s award winning band performing along with over 50 entries.

Baker said she had calls from classic car owners pouring in that Thursday so she admitted she lost the exact count of floats and entries.

Whatever the number, the parade lasted for at least 37 minutes.

I had one sixth grader come up to me after the event and say it was the best one he’s ever seen.

That’s 12 years of parades right there.

Many adults echoed the youngster’s remarks.

The parade was quite the talk of the town, not only that night but on Friday as well.

We look forward to the City of Purcell continuing to grow in a progressive, aggressive manner much like it has for the past decade.

Projects completed in the last 13 years include the new hospital, the changing of the city’s logo, the lighting of South Green Avenue, the beautification of North Green Avenue along with the lighting and banners, remodeling of City Hall, Main StreetScape, basketball courts at McCurdy Park and at the Multi-purpose Center, new equipment at the Rotary Playground, the Frisbee golf course and walking trail at the city lake and more.

The city is in good condition and sales tax figures are running above last year.

With change coming on the city council due to Ted Cox and Theda Engert not filing for their respective seats on the board –  and at the city manager position from Dale Bunn to Sam Demel, we hope the city continues to move forward in a positive direction as it has of late.
