The Washington fast-pitch team traveled up I-44 to Branson, Mo. for some fresh scenery over the weekend.

They came away with four wins, including their 9-0 win over Missouri Class 4A No. 1 Willard Tigers.

“We got ready to roll,” head coach Tylor Lampkin said. “We heard they were pretty solid and we came out and punched early and scored in the first inning.”

Washington’s three runs in the first put Willard in the hole and they were never able to climb back out.

After scoring another run in the second inning a five-run fifth inning sealed the deal.

Payton Blackburn struck out four batters while only giving up one walk.

“Payton threw a really good game,” Lampkin said.

Isabella Castillo was 2-3 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs.

Raelee Adkins was also 2-3 with two doubles.

Kinzlee Pogue had three ribbies for the Warriors.

The Warriors also had wins over Glendale (18-1), Republic (7-0) and Poplar (9-1).

“We saw some good teams up there and it gave us a chance to get a lot of people in games,” Lampkin said. “We were able to be together as a team and have some fun too. It was obviously a really good trip and I’m proud of this bunch.”

Plainview

Washington defeated Plainview 5-1 on Monday evening, which was also Senior Night.

“That was the best arm we’ve seen in a while,” Lampkin said of Plainview pitcher Landree Upshaw. “It was good to see that.”

Washington got out to another fast start, putting up three runs in the first inning.

Both teams gave up a run in the fourth inning and the Warriors scored their final run in the sixth.

Blackburn got the start and struck out seven batters while giving up no walks.

Ally Dennis finished the final two innings in relief and struck out one batter.

Ava Salcedo went 3-3 at the plate.

Jasey Baker was 2-3.

Lampkin likes where his team stands as they prepare for the State playoffs next week.

“Our pitchers are throwing it well and we’re playing solid defense,” he said. “We’re also hitting all the way through the lineup.”

The Warriors are 30-1.

They will host the District tournament Wednesday and Thursday.

Holdenville is scheduled to play here but Lampkin is awaiting the other assignment.
