In the mid to late 1960s or early 70s, Purcell football and basketball teams traveled to contests in a letterman blazer, slacks and a shirt and tie.
Dick Gray said after the 1970 season, the current coach left and a new coach was hired. The previous coach didn’t gather up the jackets from the players and the new coach didn’t know they existed.
So, Gray said, all the jackets ended up in the back of closets.
That all changed when the PHS graduate of 1973 recently found his jacket languishing in a little used closet.
He decided to shadow box frame the jacket and loan it to Purcell High School for students and alumni to learn about former school days.
So now it hangs in the high school.
