Former Purcell resident Bud Elder, who was the long time Oklahoma Film Commissioner, has finally dipped his toe into the movie business by producing and even acting in a family romantic comedy called “Second Chances.”
Written and directed by popular Oklahoma City radio personality Rick Walker, the movie is currently on Amazon Prime and Apple Plus.
Walker says he wrote the role of “Boomer” in the film with Elder in mind.
“When you see Bud in the movie, it’s not hard to tell that he and “Boomer” have similar characteristics,” he said. “But it almost took us a month of begging before he would take the part.
“Bud said the last acting job he had was playing Snoopy in his senior year at Purcell High School doing ‘You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown’.”
Set in a small town thrift store, “Second Chances” tells the story of Jimi, a worker in the enterprise, who tries some matchmaking skills while reinventing her own love life.
The film has won some 30 international awards and has been called a “crowd pleaser”
“Second Chances” was filmed in the Oklahoma City Plaza District.
“Bud and I wanted to show the rest of the world how proud we are of our home state and its residents,” Walker said. “The characters in “Second Chances” are all trying to do the right thing – we decided to make a positive movie that families can enjoy again and again.”
