The Wayne Bulldogs will square off against Lexington Friday night at Floyd West Field.
Lexington, 1-0 this season, has an outstanding quarterback in senior Cadyn Krueger.
“He’s a really explosive quarterback,” said Wayne head coach Brandon Sharp. “We’ll have to stop their quarterback. If we don’t we’ll be in trouble.”
Sharp said Lexington will try to spread out the defense and let Krueger operate or give the ball to running back Colby Haynes, or throw to one of his receivers, including tight end Cale Garver.
“We’ll have to play sound defense against that bunch,” Sharp said.
Defensively, Lexington’s front seven is a unit Sharp said. They will need to be blocked for Wayne to have success.
“Their defensive tackle (Issac Martin) is as good as we’ll see this season,” Sharp said. “He gets off the ball.”
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
Stratford
Wayne was defeated, 28-0, by Stratford Friday night.
Wayne had opportunities in the game but wasn’t able to capitalize on four trips inside the Stratford 30 yard line and three times inside the red zone.
Turnovers and time expiring before half spoiled those scoring chances.
“We’ll have to execute better going forward,” Sharp said. “We didn’t match Stratford’s physicality at times.”
The coach said the Stratford quarterback, Lincoln Hall, was as good as he looked on film.
“Their quarterback and running back were both really good,” Sharp said. “We didn’t do a very good job at times of getting lined up and our gap fits were bad.
“ We’ll have to execute better and we have to adjust to pressure.”
Notes
Head coach Brandon Sharp nominated Joel Rojas for Heart of Oklahoma Defensive Lineman of the Week. Rojas had 10 tackles in the game.
