The Wayne Bulldogs enjoyed a bye week after starting the season 3-0 but get back to business this Friday night in their first district game of the season.

The Bulldogs used their bye week to get healed up after some early season bumps and bruises and worked on eliminating what head coach Brandon Sharp called “bone headed mistakes” in their first three games.

Sharp and company also emphasized working on their run game during the off week.

Friday night the Healdton Bulldogs visit D.S. Zack Powell Stadium for a 7 p.m. kick to open league play for both squads.

Offensively, Healdton will base out of the flexbone with the offense revolving around their fullback.

“They’re big and physical up front and will utilize the quarterback option while their fullback carries most of the load,” Sharp said.

The visiting Bulldogs will also utilize two big playmakers in the slot where they stress motion and getting on the edge to make things difficult for the defense.

“Their fullback is big and physical as well. When a team can execute the flexbone, it’s tough to stop,” Sharp said.

“We will need to be ready to gang tackle and play sound assignment football.”

Defensively, Healdton will base out of the “50” front allowing their talented MIKE linebacker to control the interior allowing the outside linebackers to make plays.

“They really have an active secondary and it’s going to be a big challenge. They’ve lost two straight that they could’ve easily won and be 3-0 right now,” Sharp said.

“They had a chance to beat two bigger schools in Tishomingo and Stratford. They’re going to be ready and fired up to play. We need to keep it close and get to the fourth quarter and see what we can do,” Sharp concluded.
