On Monday night the Lady Bulldogs dropped a game with the #6 Turner Lady Falcons, 6-3.
“That was a frustrating loss. We played really well until the fifth inning and then we had several errors in a row and they scored to get the winning runs,” head coach Megan Moreno said.
Despite outhitting them 11-9, Wayne couldn’t push the runs across to pick up the win.
Turner got on the board first with a run in the second inning.
In the top of the third, Wayne took the 2-1 lead when Cylie Jones doubled to centerfield and Audra Watts doubled down the left field line to score one run each.
Turner scored two in the fourth to take the 3-2 lead.
But, Wayne wouldn’t go away and they tied it up again when Maddie Moreno tagged up to score a run in the fifth inning.
Turner put three more runs on the board in the bottom of the fifth on a double that scored two and an error that scored one.
“We had a chance in the seventh inning, but our batters went down one, two, three.”
Wayne collected 11 hits in the loss, three each from Moreno and Watts.
Cylie Jones, Natalie Knobloch and Watts accounted for Wayne’s three RBIs.
Last week the Wayne Lady Bulldogs picked up three wins – a 14-4 win over Velma on Tuesday, a 9-0 win over Empire on Thursday and a 10-8 win over Verden on Friday.
Those wins evened their record to 9-9.
Wayne was to continue their ranked games hosting #17 Rush Springs on Tuesday.
Velma-Alma
The Lady Bulldogs collected 20 hits on their way to the lopsided win over the Lady Comets. Junior Alyssa Hobson led the team with four hits and two RBIs. Moreno had three hits and five RBIs.
Taelynn Ringwald, Cylie Jones, Addison Clagg, Watts, Skie Jones and Kendall Sparks had multiple hits in the win.
Knobloch was in the circle to start the game. She allowed four runs on four hits with five walks and three strikeouts in two and two-thirds innings of work.
Moreno came on in relief. She allowed zero runs and struck out nine batters and allowed one hit.
Velma-Alma got on the board with four runs in the top of the first inning. Wayne responded by plating three runs of their own.
After the first inning, Wayne held the Lady Comets scoreless.
The Lady Bulldogs added two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth. They really broke the game open with eight runs in the sixth inning.
Clagg singled to score one, Watts doubled to score one, Skie Jones doubled to score one, Hobson doubled to score two and Moreno tripled to score three.
Empire
Wayne picked up another lopsided win when they bested the Lady Bulldogs of Empire, 9-0 in a complete game shutout by Moreno.
She fanned seven batters and allowed just three hits and walked six in her seven innings in the circle.
The Lady Bulldogs collected 11 hits in the win, including two each from Hobson, Moreno, Cylie Jones and Skie Jones. Knobloch, Watts and Clagg had one apiece.
Wayne scored three runs in the second and sealed the game with six runs in the fourth.
Verden
Friday was another win for Wayne – 10-8 over Verden.
The Lady Bulldogs held a 3-0 lead through three innings when Verden got on the board with two runs in the fourth.
Wayne added one run in the bottom of the fourth inning to make the score 4-2.
Verden chipped away with another run in the fifth but Wayne answered with six runs.
The Lady Tigers chipped into the Wayne lead with four runs in the sixth and one in the seventh. But, Wayne held them off.
Moreno got the win in the circle and, together with Knobloch, the pitchers accounted for seven strikeouts.
Moreno was the leader at the plate, going 3-4 with a single and two doubles and knocking in two runs. Ringwald and Cylie Jones each had two hits and two RBIs.
The Lady Bulldogs allowed no two-out RBIs and stranded 10 Verden baserunners.
Wayne will host Ninnekah today (Thursday) to finish a game from earlier this season that was called due to weather.
