The Washington Warriors took runners-up at the Silo tournament over the weekend.
They lost to Poteau 10-7 in the finals of the tournament.
Warrior head coach Tylor Lampkin said his team was a little up and down in the tournament.
“We struggled with some things but they are things I’m glad I saw so we can go back and work on them,” he said. “We struggled in the circle a little and didn’t play great defense behind. In the long run it will be good for us.”
Red Oak
Washington opened the tournament with a 5-4 loss to Red Oak.
Washington scored three runs in the second inning and another in the third.
But they allowed Red Oak to score five runs in the third to take the win. Washington scattered 10 hits in the game, including a triple by Ava Salcedo, who went 1-3 with three RBIs.
“We stayed even in the games,” Lampkin said. “We got down big against Red Oak and Poteau but didn’t get discouraged.”
Poteau
Washington beat Poteau 6-4 in the next game Washington came out of the gate hot, scoring five runs in the first inning.
Poteau scored two in the first and a couple more in the third.
The Warriors tacked on one last run in the fifth inning.
At the plate, Kinzlee Pogue doubled to score three runs.
Presley Lucas and Lexie Salcedo also doubled.
Ava Salcedo had a triple.
Broken Bow
Washington defeated Broken Bow 9-1 in the next game with Ellie Musgrove and Ally Dennis leading the way in the circle.
Julie Hoehner went 2-3 with a double and four ribbies.
Washington finished the game with a four-run fourth inning.
Tishomingo
The Warriors picked up another win after they defeated Tishomingo 8-0.
Washington put three runs on the board in each of the first two innings. They added a run in each of the next two innings.
They got back on the home run bus during the game, with Ava Salcedo, Daphne Palumbo and Hoehner each hitting one.
“We’re hitting it pretty well,” Lampkin said. “The girls in the lineup are consistent.”
Dennis had a one-hit shutout in the circle.
Poteau
Washington lost their game, 10-7, against Poteau in the finals.
Poteau came out swinging. They scored five runs in the first, then two in the second and three in the third. They put up their final run in the fourth inning.
Pogue had a big game at the plate, going 2-3 with a homer and five ribbies.
Ava Salcedo went 2-2 with a triple and an RBI.
District games
Washington has key District games with Marlow and Jones next.
They are 18-4 on the year.
