The Washington fast-pitch softball team opened the State playoffs by hosting the Regional tournament Wednesday.
Jones and Chisholm will round out the three-team tournament.
Jones is 13-13 this season.
“Jones is competitive,” Warrior head coach Tylor Lampkin said. “If they’re hot at the plate that day they’re pretty good. We’ll need to try to get on them early.”
Chisholm is 6-23 this season.
The tournament started Wednesday and will continue today (Thursday) at home.
Stuart
Washington defeated Stuart 11-0 Sept. 26.
Olivia Palumbo struck out five batters while allowing no hits and just one walk.
Ava Salcedo came on in relief and struck out one.
At the plate, Washington had 12 hits.
Salcedo hit two triples at the dish and finished 3-4 with two RBIs.
Addy Larman, Daphne Palumbo and Julie Hoehner all had doubles in the game.
Kinzlee Pogue had four RBIs on her two singles and was 2-4.
Emersyn Massey was 2-3.
“We hit the ball really, really well,” Lampkin said. “It was good because their pitchers are really good. Their main pitcher led the state in strikeouts last year with 417.”
Washington, now 32-2, played Cache on Monday.
“We’re not too full with our schedule right now,” Lampkin said. “We pulled the reins back a little and we’re able to get a little lift in or something and be ready for Playoffs.”
