Washington’s first team offense only played six plays against Little Axe on the road last Friday in the team’s 45-0 shellacking of Little Axe.

The Warriors lit up the scoreboard for 39 first quarter points aided by a pair of interceptions for scores by Gavin Foster and Jaxon McKinney.

Quarterback Creed Barrett found Jackson Mays on a 24-yard touchdown pass to go with a nine-yard scoring run by Kade Babcock and a 50-yard jaunt by Josiah Dickerson.

Hunter Brackseick scored from four yards out in the third period and Landon McGrew closed out the scoring with a six-yard run in the fourth quarter.

As a team, the Warriors rushed for 227 yards on 32 carries and were 3-3 passing for 75 yards and the scoring toss to Mays.

Coming off a bye week and getting their first taste of district play against the Indians, Warriors Head Coach Brad Beller liked what he saw overall from his team.

“I’m very proud of the team with the maturity they showed in practice the last two weeks,” Beller said. “We got a lot better overall as a team. Our seconds, thirds and freshmen all played well last Friday night.”

Washington held Little Axe to 13 yards rushing and only one first down that came late in the fourth period.

“When you play that many young guys against a varsity team it says a lot,” Beller noted.

“Connor Still, a freshman linebacker, made a lot of plays,” Beller said. “Ryatt Ramirez played well and Sam Salcedo at outside linebacker made a lot of tackles going sideline to sideline.

“Our offense was very efficient on the snaps we did have,” Beller continued. “And Kannon Clary ran our offense with the second group almost to perfection. He was in control of the offense, made checks at the line of scrimmage and handled the huddle well.”

Still led the defensive statistics with eight tackles. Freshman Cooper Caveness registered four stops while fellow freshman Sam Salcedo had three tackles. He was  joined in the three tackle spot by sophomore Ryatt Ramirez. Fellow sophomore Huck Autry also had a trio of tackles.

Foster’s interception return was a 36-yarder while McKinney’s return was good for 34 yards to the end zone. Freshman Ace Anderson also picked off an errant Indian aerial.

Washington returns home for only their second home game of the season when Dickson’s Comets fly into town.

Kick off is set for 7 p.m. at Reed Field.

The Comets are big up front and are a very athletic squad, according to Beller.

“They are a spread offense and base out of a 3-4 on defense,” Beller said. “They score a ton of points. The key for us is to not let them get big chunk plays on offense and likewise against their defense pick up well the pressure they bring.”

Warrior notes:

Head coach Brad Beller did not have any nominations for Player of the Week.
