The Washington Warrior baseball team wrapped up the Southeast Shootout in southeast Oklahoma, going 1-3 in the competitive field.

The team traveled to Broken Bow and stayed together in a cabin in Hochatown.

Head coach Brad Lucas was happy with his team’s overall performance.

“We played really well in all but one game,” he said. “We pitched it well enough to keep us in games.”

Duncan

They lost to Class 5A Duncan 7-4 in the first game. Duncan is 10-2 this season.

“Duncan is really good,” Lucas said.

The Demons struck first in the game and led 3-0 before Washington answered in the fourth inning with a four-run outburst.

But the Warriors would relinquish the lead in the top of the fifth inning after the Demons scored a pair of runs.

Duncan scored another run in each the sixth and seventh innings and the Warriors were unable to get any offense going.

Junior Jackson Rico was 2-2 with a walk and an RBI in the game.

Spencer Barton, Jonathen Montoya and Liam Keltner handled the pitching duties. Barton went four innings before Montoya came on in relief.

Valliant

Owen Andrews pitched a complete game in the Warriors’ 1-0 win over Class 3A Valliant.

“It was a pretty intense game with a playoff feel to it,” Lucas said.

Neither team was able to get any offense going until the Warriors finally pushed a run across the plate in the top of the seventh inning.

Dawson Thomas started the inning with a single.

Then the Warriors small-balled Valliant to get Thomas into scoring position.

They got their run on the board when Bello singled to right field, driving in Thomas.

The Warrior defense held in the bottom half of the inning and they took the win.

Andrews had nine strikeouts  to four walks and four hits in the game.

Elk City

Washington fell to 4A Elk City 13-0 on Wednesday.

The Warriors struggled at the plate and ended the game with only two hits.

Six errors in the field didn’t help their cause.

Three errors were committed in the first inning, which helped lead to 11 first-inning runs for Elk City, who is 8-0 on the season.

“They are a good team,” Lucas said of the Elks, who went to the State tournament a year ago.

Claremore

Washington dropped a close game to Claremore in the next game, 6-5, in extra innings.

Montoya got the start and lasted five innings before Zeke Wilson came on in relief.

Both teams scored in the first inning – Washington with three and Claremore with two –  and the Warriors added another run in the second inning.

Claremore took the lead in the fifth inning when they put up three runs but Washington answered and tied it up at 5-5.

Neither team was able to score again until the top of the ninth, when Claremore scored one run.

Washington wasn’t able to match them in the bottom half of the inning.

Jack Brady was 2-4 with a double and had two RBIs.

“We had a great time down there and the team being together was great,” Lucas said. “We really appreciate all the support we get.”

Anadarko

The Warriors picked up on their District slate on Monday with an 8-1 win over Anadarko.

The Warriors got on the board when Wilson knocked in Rico in the first inning.

Anadarko scored their only run in the first inning.

Washington sprinkled in several more runs before putting up three in the seventh.

Kale Brakefield homered in the game and Bello had a pair of RBIs.

Barton got the win on the mound.

The Warriors are 5-0 in District and 8-4 overall.

They head to the Sulphur Festival today (Thursday) and tomorrow.
