The Lady Bulldogs’ schedule last week looked a little different than they thought. Thanks to weather and wet fields the New Lima tournament was canceled.

Instead, head coach Megan Moreno picked up games with Central Marlow and Riverside.

Central Marlow

In a close, 11-9,  loss the Wayne Lady Bulldogs outhit the Lady Bronchos of Central Marlow 10-9.

The Lady Bronchos jumped out with nine runs in the first inning. They added another run in the bottom of the second. And a final insurance run in the third.

“They got nine runs in the first inning on four hits. We had five walks and just shot ourselves in the foot,” head coach Moreno said.

In a deep hole, the Lady Bulldogs clawed back with two runs in the third.

They got seven more runs back in the fourth when Addison Clagg singled to score two, Alyssa Hobson walked to score one, Maddie Moreno tripled to score three and Cylie Jones singled to score one.

“We showed some grit and came back and got the score within two or three runs but we just ran out of time.”

Despite the loss, Wayne collected 10 hits led by Hobson, Clagg, Audra Watts and Cylie Jones.

Moreno was the RBI leader with three.

Natalie Knobloch was in the circle for the loss. She allowed 11 runs (10 earned) on nine hits. She walked five and struck out one.

Riverside

Once again, Wayne collected double digits hits (11) and this time they came away with an 8-1 win.

The Lady Bulldogs pushed two runs across in the first inning and added six more in the fourth.

Skie Jones singled to score two runs, Hobson grounded out to score one run, Knobloch singled to score one, Moreno doubled to score one and Cylie Jones doubled to score one to make six runs.

Riverside scored their lone run in the third inning.

Moreno was in the circle for all five innings. She fanned seven batters and allowed just one run on two hits and one walk.

Along with the 11 hits, Wayne had eight RBIs led by Cylie Jones, Skie Jones and Moreno with two each. Hobson and Knobloch each had one.

The Lady Bulldogs, currently with a 8-10 record, were scheduled for a three game homestand this week. Monday they hosted Velma, Thursday they will host Empire and Friday it is Verden.

“It’s good to have some home games this week. I’d like to get some wins to put us back over .500.

“I feel like we’re headed in the right direction and if we can put that last piece of the puzzle in there we’ll be alright.”
