Washington collected four more District wins to further solidify their positioning in the standings of District 3A-4.
Washington’s District record now stands at a perfect 8-0, with Jones in the No. 2 spot at 3-1.
Washington played double-headers with Community Christian School (CCS) on Thursday and against Casady on Friday.
“It was good to get those games in,” said Warrior head coach Tylor Lampkin. “We still have several good ones coming up too.”
CCS
Washington pitched a pair of shutouts against CCS, winning 14-0 in the first game and 6-0 in the second.
Ally Dennis pitched a no-hitter in the first game, striking out four while walking two batters.
“Ally had back to back good days,” Lampkin said. “She’s been really good about pitching to contact. She was in the zone.”
The Warriors got all over CCS early when they scored 11 runs in the first inning. They followed that up with three runs in the second inning of the three-inning contest.
Julie Hoehner was 2-2 with a homer and a double. She had three RBIs and was walked once.
Emersyn Massey was 2-3 with a triple and two ribbies. She scored three times.
Raelee Adkins was 3-3 with a double and an RBI.
Ava Salcedo was 2-3 with a double and an RBI.
Kinzlee Pogue was 2-2 with an RBI.
Payton Blackburn was a girl on a mission in the second game, throwing a no-hitter and striking out an incredible 16 batters in the seven-inning contest.
She allowed only two walks in the game.
“She has been throwing it pretty well,” Lampkin said. “She got a little time off and got after it. Her velocity was up and when she’s on like that she makes it tough.”
The Warriors’ runs were spread out, with them scoring two runs in the first, third and fifth innings.
Hoehner stayed hot at the plate and was 1-3 with a homer and two RBIs. She also walked once.
“She’s trying to catch Ava in home runs,” Lampkin quipped. “The upperclassmen are hitting it well.”
Salcedo was 3-4 with two triples. She scored three times in the game.
Daphne Palumbo was 2-3 with an RBI.
Kelby Beller was 2-3 with a double.
Casady
Washington put up 10 runs in the first inning of the first game against Casady to open things up.
They added another run in the second.
Dennis struck out two batter and had one walk in three innings.
Salcedo homered and was 1-1 with two RBIs.
Hoehner was 1-1 with a triple.
Palumbo had two doubles and two RBIs.
Ellie Musgrove got the start in the circle and struck out two batters over 2 1/3 innings.
Abby Byrd came in to relieve Musgrove.
Blackburn hit a three-run double in the second inning.
Massey went 3-3 with an RBI.
Kelby Beller was also 3-3 and she had three ribbies.
Lampkin is happy where his team is at halfway through the season.
“Our mind set is good and were getting where we need to be,” he said “We still have to clean up some stuff. We’ll be ready to roll when the Playoffs start.”
Washington is 14-1 and will play in the Silo tournament Sept. 4-6.
