Good pitching combined with high octane performances at the plate propelled Purcell’s Fast-pitch Dragons into a perfect 3-0 mark last week.

The Dragons rallied to surpass Newcastle on the road, 8-4 riding the arm of freshman Taryn Knowles.

She dominated in the circle striking out 11 Racers while scattering seven hits. She walked four.

Knowles helped her own cause with a sacrifice fly that tied the game at one all.

Newcastle went up 2-1 in their half of the third inning.

Purcell’s Jaycee Holman, who had two hits on the day, roped a shot down the third base line in the fourth that tied the game at two.

Miaca Martinez, Knowles and Kiley Leonard all had a pair of RBIs in the game.

“We were great at the plate,” head coach Jason Tompkins said. “We drew five walks in the game led by Gracie Powell who had two.”

Purcell’s defense was hotter than a two dollar pistol in the victory over the Racers.

“Our defense was on fire backing up Knowles in the circle,” the coach confirmed.

Holman and Knowles led the offense with two hits apiece.

On senior night, the Dragons’ lone senior Ava Sparks tossed BBs at Seminole in the first game of two shutout victories over the visiting Chieftains.

Sparks fanned six batters in a 15-0 run-rule victory.

Kyndall Williams had an in-the-park grand slam. Sparks sparkled at the plate as well with a two-run single.

Holman picked up an RBI on a walk while Knowles’ got a pair of RBIs grounding into a fielder’s choice. Freshman Kyleigh Reinhold smacked an RBI double and fellow freshman Kiley Leonard lined an RBI single.

In the nightcap, the Dragons run-ruled the visitors 14-0 with KiKi Waterman throwing a no-hitter with six strikeouts.

Leonard got an in-the-park home run that scored a pair of runners.

Freshman Brielle Gardner knocked in the first run of the contest. After sophomore Raigen Mariott plated a runner with a single, a Seminole error allowed three more base runners to cross the plate.

Freshman Teagan Hernandez had an RBI single in the game.

Purcell took a 15-11 record into Tuesday’s road trip to Perkins.
