Graveside services for  Phyllis Horn, 82, of Wayne were held Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell. Services were under the direction of the Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.

Mrs. Horn passed away on July 29, 2023.

Phyllis Ann Wyatt was born on April 23, 1941 in Wayne, Oklahoma, the older of two daughters born to William “Bill” Lonzo Wyatt Jr. and Viola “Ola” Augusta (Little) Wyatt.  She attended Purcell schools, was on the girls’ basketball team and graduated with the Dragon Class of 1959.

Shortly after graduating high school, she went to work at McClain Bank where she was employed for nearly 10 years.  She served her community proudly and made many friends and connections. In 1965, Phyllis welcomed her pride and joy into the world, her daughter Lori.

In 1970, she was set up on a blind date by mutual friends with a man named Phillip Michael “Mike” Horn. This blind date was just the beginning of their love story. The two quickly fell in love and were married on September 1, 1971. In 1972, Phyllis, Mike, and Lori moved to Albany, Georgia, where they would spend the next 17 years. In 1989, they returned to the Purcell area to be near their family.

Phyllis was carried by her faith and believed strongly in the power of prayer. She attended Union Hill Baptist Church since its founding in 1950 and taught a number of Sunday School classes through the years. She deeply cherished the members of her current Sunday School class and her dear friends from “Club” - the Stealey OHCE, of which she was the current President.  In her free time Phyllis loved to garden, travel with her husband Mike, spend time with her broad extended family, and serve her church family. She loved watching sports, but basketball and the Olympics were her favorites.

Phyllis was independent, determined, and intelligent. She accomplished anything she put her mind to, and she always did it with a smile on her face and an easy giggle. She went out of her way to make people feel loved and accepted. More than anything, Phyllis was a woman of faith and family. She truly cherished every moment with her family. Phyllis was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and a true friend.  She will be dearly missed!

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Horn; her parents, Bill and Ola Wyatt; sister, Peggy Moore and brother-in-law, Jack Moore.

Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Lori Peterson (Bixby) of Princeton, Texas; her stepsons, Michael Horn (Bette) of Madera, California, and Byron Horn (Debbie) of Plano, Texas; niece, Kelly Riley (Jamie) and their two sons, Garrett and Chance of Goldsby; nephew, Paul Moore (Stacy) and their two sons, Brody and Sutton of Washington; six grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
