Ruby Frances Smith-Adkins, 101, of Purcell, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2024.

Ruby was born at home in Siskiyou County, California, on March 26, 1923 to Calvin and Margaret Smith. She was the oldest of 10 children.

Ruby and her husband, Dick Adkins, were married on July 31, 1950. Together, along with their three children, they lived in rural McClain County, Oklahoma, operating their family dairy.

Ruby loved to cook, and most knew and loved her fry bread she would make for Indian taco sales at the Chickasaw Nation Center in Purcell. If she was not cooking or canning, you could find her at a lake fishing. Her trivia and crossword skills, wittiness, and laugh will definitely be missed.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dick; her son, Mike Adkins and seven siblings.

She is survived by her children, Janice (John) Clift and Gary (Danni) Adkins; brother, Ted (Jackie) Smith; sister, Gwyn Jennings; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and friends.

The family would like to send special thanks to all of Ruby’s friends at the Chickasaw Nation center in Purcell, Elara Hospice and family friend, Trina Lowery.

Donations in memory of Ruby can be made to Elara Hospice in Purcell or to your favorite charity.

Graveside services were held Wednesday, April 24, 2024 in the Dibble Cemetery, Dibble, Oklahoma.  Arrangements were under the direction of Eisenhour Funeral Home of Blanchard.
