The Washington fast-pitch softball team improved to a perfect 11-0 Class 3A-4 after notching three wins last week.
They picked up a pair of wins over Marlow and another against Little Axe.
The Warriors have clinched another District title as they enter the tail end of the regular season.
“It was a breath of fresh air to win the District,” said Warrior head coach Tylor Lampkin.
Marlow
Washington played Marlow on Tuesday and Friday in a home-and-home series.
In the first match up, Washington came out with a 16-1 win.
The Warriors hung a 10 spot on the Outlaws in the first inning.
Washington batted around the lineup in the first inning and had homers from Daphne Palumbo and Ava Salcedo.
Salcedo finished the game going 2-4 with a home run and a triple and four RBIs.
Palumbo fished 2-4 with a homer and a triple and three ribbies.
“It was good for Daphne to get her home run,” Lampkin said. “She stayed hot at the plate all week.”
Julie Hoehner also homered during her 3-4 day at the plate. She also had four RBIs.
Kinzlee Pogue had a home run and a double, going 3-4 with four RBIs.
The Warriors scored three runs in both the third and fifth innings.
Marlow scored their lone run in the third inning.
Payton Blackburn was salty in the circle.
The freshman stuck out 10 batters and allowed no walks. She only gave up three hits and one earned run.
“We pitched it a lot better this week,” Lampkin said. “We competed and did what I thought we were going to be able to do in the circle. When we do that we’re pretty tough.”
Washington pieced four runs together in the second game on Friday, scoring one in the first inning, two in the second inning and one more in the fifth.
Hoehner homered again and was 1-2 with two RBIs.
Jasey Baker went 2-3 at the plate with a pair of RBIs. She doubled in the bottom of the second inning to score Raelee Adkins and Palumbo.
Ally Dennis had the circle and struck out five while allowing two hits and no walks.
“Our depth is really good and makes my job really hard. They know they have to perform at a high level,” Lampkin said. “If they’re not performing, someone is waiting for their spot. It’s put a lot of pressure on a lot of them and hopefully having that experience will help us in the playoffs.”
Little Axe
Blackburn got the start against Little Axe and made short work of the Indians.
She struck out 10 batters in seven innings. She allowed a single hit and didn’t walk a batter.
Adkins was 3-4 at the dish with a home run and a pair of RBIs.
Hoehner went 3-1 with a triple and three RBIs.
Salcedo was 3-4 with a triple and two RBIs.
“Both Julie and Ava are on a tear,” Lampkin said. “They are two of the best, if not the best, hitters in our class.”
Washington is 21-4 this season.
