Oleta Marie Irby gracefully departed this world November 20, 2023, in Norman, Oklahoma at the age of 83 years 1 months 2 days. Graveside services were held Monday, November 27, 2023, at the Lexington Cemetery, entrusted to the care of Wadley’s Funeral Service.
Oleta was born October 18, 1940, in Wynnewood, Oklahoma, to John and Marie (Blevins) Thompson. She carried within her a spirit that embraced compassion and love. Raised in Lexington, she flourished and graduated from school around 1958.
As her journey unfolded, Oleta’s pursuit of knowledge led her to become a Certified Medication Aide. Dedicated to serving others, she devoted herself to caring for those in need at the Veterans Center.
Above all else, Oleta cherished her family and doted on her grandchildren with boundless adoration. Her nurturing nature extended beyond blood ties as she selflessly cared for anyone who crossed her path.
Gardening brought joy to her heart as she marveled at the beauty of nature’s creations. Additionally, literature captivated her mind as reading became a cherished pastime. Oleta was a remarkable soul, whose presence touched the lives of many.
Oleta was preceded in death by her grandparents; her parents, John and Marie Thompson; her brothers, Joe Thompson and George Thompson; and her sister, Genievee Shepherd.
Survivors include her son, Robert Irby; her grandchildren, Latasha and Jakob; her siblings, Hazel Henning and Sue Hopper; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
