Lexington will host Purcell’s Dragons at 7 p.m. Friday night at Floyd West Field in the Battle for the Bridge, looking for their first win of the 2026 gridiron season.
Freshman Sawyer Beers threw for one touchdown and ran for another pacing the Bulldog offense last Friday night at Wayne.
Beers hit junior Cash Dierking for a 26-yard scoring play followed by a Sage Loux point after touchdown.
Later in the contest, Beers marched in from six yards out to close out Lexington’s scoring for the evening.
Coach Sean Guerra’s Bulldogs are coming off a 55-13 loss at the hands of the Bulldogs last week.
Guerra said he was impressed with the play of Cody Rollins and Jaxon Torres on the defensive side of the ball.
Rollins registered five tackles against the Bulldogs while Torres had four stops and picked off an errant Wayne pass.
“Overall, we improved on a lot of things,” Guerra said. “Our freshmen and younger players did a good job of getting aligned. We’re a green team that doubled the problems by not getting lined up properly against Konawa.”
Guerra and his ‘Dawgs are now turning their attention to the Dragons.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
“They’re good,” Guerra says flatly. “They are well coached. They will come out in the flex-bone and force you to play responsibility football on defense. That’s tough for a green team. We will have to be physical and do our assignments to have a chance.
Bulldog notes:
Head coach Sean Guerra nominated Augustine Argeta as the Offensive Lineman of the Week. He graded out at 63 percent against Wayne last Friday night.
“He blocked pretty well for a freshman playing only his second varsity game,” the coach said.
Guerra nominated Cody Rollins as the Defensive Player of the Week for his five tackles against Wayne.
There were no nominations for Offensive Player of the Week or Defensive Lineman of the Week.
