Johna Jeanette (Herrin) Pryor

Johna Jeanette (Herrin) Pryor was born on December 4, 1944, in Sherman, Texas to Dr. JJ and Irene Herrin.

Johna was raised in Madill, Oklahoma where she graduated from high school in the class of 1962 and graduated from OBU in 1966 with degrees in Elementary Education and Music.  She was also certified to teach English as a Second Language.

On August 2, 1964, she married Curtis Pryor, and they were married for almost 59 years. Throughout their lives together, they lived in Oklahoma City, Shawnee, Madill, Stroud, Waurika and Purcell.  Johna taught fourth grade and music at Kingston Public Schools for a few years before becoming a full-time Mom and volunteer.

Johna had two daughters, Christy and Melody, and spent most of her life teaching kids choir and playing the piano for church, teaching piano lessons, teaching English as a Second Language to immigrants from many different countries, working with exchange students and singing with the Singing Church Women of Oklahoma.

Johna is survived by her husband, Curtis; daughter, Christy Idleman and husband, Brian, of Madill; daughter, Melody Yoast and husband, Thomas, of Lawton; grandchildren, Johnathon Wallace, wife Kim, and son Ryan of Savannah, Texas, Christopher Moore, wife Skylar, and sons, Rudner and Banner of Edmond, Okla., Mallory Brewer, husband Derek, and children, Jayce and Lilly of Whitesboro Texas; Carly Mason, husband Jaime, and son Walter of Celina, Texas; and Tyler Wallace of Lawton, Okla.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. JJ and Irene Herrin and leaves behind many people who loved her and whose lives she touched in numerous ways.

The funeral service was Saturday, July 15, 2023 in Madill at First Baptist Church under the direction of Watts Funeral Home.  Homer Walkup officiated the service. Music was arranged by Christy Idleman and Bob Atterberry. Condolences may be sent to wattsfuneralhome.com.

Casket bearers were Johnathon Wallace, Christopher Moore, Tyler Wallace, Derek Brewer, Jaime Mason and Jake Idleman.
