Garland Monroe Dickson, Jr. died November 25, 2023, in Norman, Oklahoma, at the age of 75 years 9 months 30 days.  Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, November 30, 2023, at the Hillside Cemetery, entrusted to the care of Wadley’s Funeral Service.

Garland was born January 26, 1948, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, to Garland and Geneva (Plummons) Dickson. Garland Sr. was a farmer, and in the military, so the family moved all over the country, so Garland Jr. attended many schools throughout the country.

He met Barbara Trotter in 1971, they were united in marriage on January 26, 1979, and celebrated 44 years of marriage, but 52 years together. Garland worked many jobs during his life including being a carpenter, truck driver, and business owner. He and Barbara owned an upholstery company for many years.  Garland enjoyed traveling, watching movies, reading, and the mountains of Colorado. He also enjoyed woodworking and would often make toys and cradles for the kids.

Above all else, Garland loved spending time with his wife and family, enjoying a good meal. Garland was selfless and would help anyone he could.

Garland was preceded in death by his father, Garland Dickson, Sr.; his mother, Geneva Dickson; his sister, Patricia Maupin; his stepdaughter, Julia Jones; and his son-in-law, Thomas McCarthey.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Dickson; his son, Clint Abner and wife, Christine; his daughter, Christina Dickson; his daughter, Lisa McCarthey; his brother, Calvin Dickson; his grandchildren, Jessica Beachy, Latasha Irby, Sara Jones, Jessica Jones and Brittany Jones; his two great-grandchildren; his brother-in-law, Raymond Trotter; his niece and nephews, Kris Maupin, Scott Maupin and Jenny Maupin; his great-niece, Bryanna Maupin; his great-great-nephew, Axle Maupin; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
