Brenda Gayle Pendergraft died October 11, 2023, in Purcell, Oklahoma at the age of 74 years 5 months 8 days. Graveside services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, October 21, 2023 at the Noble IOOF Cemetery, entrusted to the care of Wadley’s Funeral Service.

Brenda was born May 3, 1949, in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, to Raymond Newton and Mildred Lorine (Martin) Rose. She spent her formative years in many locations from Tennessee to Oklahoma, where she received her education, graduating from Harding High School in Oklahoma City. Brenda pursued her passion for cosmetology and furthered her knowledge by obtaining a license in the field.

On December 5, 1969, Brenda entered into a lifelong partnership with Lynn Ray Pendergraft. Their unbreakable bond lasted for an incredible 46 years until Lynn’s passing in 2016. Throughout their marriage, Brenda dedicated herself to caring for her family. Her devotion knew no bounds as she lovingly attended to her husband’s well-being.

While known to possess an occasional stubborn streak, Brenda’s primary focus was always her loved ones.  Family held immeasurable importance in Brenda’s life. She cherished every opportunity to spend time with her children and grandchildren; their presence brought her immense joy. Anyone that found themselves in Brenda’s home became like family.

Brenda found solace in simple pleasures like sitting on the back porch and appreciating life’s tranquil moments. Alongside these cherished pastimes, she also enjoyed needlepoint work, collecting Avon products, and sharing her culinary talents with others. Brenda gained recognition among friends and family as an exceptional cook. Her pot roast was unparalleled in flavor and tenderness; those lucky enough to savor her chicken and dumplings were forever grateful. In addition to these savory dishes, Brenda’s chocolate cake with decadent chocolate icing became legendary.

Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Mildred Rose; and her husband of 46 years, Lynn Pendergraft.

Survivors include her daughters, Terrie Cates, Sheridan Swafford, Tracey Pendergraft and Debbie Uwekoolani; her grandchildren, Mark Hoffman and Sarah, Mishelle Rainer and Robert, Melissa Abrew, Staci Hoffman and Janeen Lovelace, Dustin Hoffman and Collin Anderson, Sidney Cates and Lisa and Jacob Cates; her numerous great-grandchildren including, Marshall “Bo” Hoffman and Haven Richmond, JJ Weaver, Mabel Hoffman and Jameson, Francis Lovelace-Hoffman; her siblings, Jody, Connie, Gary, Terry, Pam and Mitchell; and many other relatives and friends.
