The Washington Warriors went 3-2 in the Heart of Oklahoma Softball Tournament.

They defeated Comanche (5-2), Cache (8-7) and Alva (10-3).

Their losses were to Plainview (8-2) and Noble (5-4).

Head coach Tylor Lampkin said he’s still looking for the right recipe in his lineup.

“I’m still trying to figure out some pieces and put people in the right places to make us more successful,” he said. “This is the latest I’ve gone into a season without having the same lineup on offense or defense.”

Senior Emjay Lucas got the win in the circle in the Comanche game. She struck out one batter.

“Emjay threw it well against Comanche,” Lampkin said.

Emersyn Massey was 2-3 at the dish and knocked in an RBI.

“Emersyn and Ava Salcedo are still hitting it really well,” Lampkin said.

Salcedo was 1-1 with two walks and a run scored.

Halle Andrews doubled in the fourth inning and drove in another run.

The coach was high on the pitching of the freshman, Salcedo as well.

“Ava threw well against Cache,” Lampkin said. “She pitched really on in relief.”

Salcedo struck out five batters in three innings.

Sophomore Presley Lucas is making her presence be known on the field as well.

“Presley is getting back and playing more,” Lampkin said. No doubt she helps when she’s in there. She’s hitting around .600 right now.”

Lucas was 3-3 against Cache with an RBI and scored a run.

Daphne Palumbo was 2-3 with a double and a triple. She knocked in two RBIs.

While the outfield has remained fairly consistent with Massey, Salcedo and Shelbie Caveness, Lampkin is still tinkering with the lineup in the infield.

“The outfielders are getting pretty comfy with each other,” Lampkin said.

The coach will continue to tinker with the infield and the addition of Julie Hoehner will help in the field and at the plate.

“Julie will be a huge stick in the lineup,” he said.

We need more consistency and I’m trying to see who will step up and take control. When we do we’ll start rolling a little.”
