A 20-year-old Moore man was killed in a grinding two-vehicle traffic accident Saturday night at mile marker 103 on northbound Interstate 35.

According to investigating OHP Trooper Shayne Ballard, a 2021 Ford Transit truck for Amazon was northbound on I-35 when it ran into the back of a tractor trailer rig. The impact pinned the driver, Blake C. Smith for an hour. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by Goldsby Fire Fighters.

The 2023 Freightliner was driven by Demetrious Denson, 58, of Lancaster, Texas. He was not injured.

Ballard said the Freightliner had slowed due to traffic congestion.

Smith was extricated by Goldsby and Purcell Fire Fighters by the use of multiple tools, the OHP reported.

The accident scene was one of two being investigated simultaneously in the area due to the construction project at I-35 and SH 9.

An alternate route through Goldsby was the scene of a jackknifed 18-wheeler at Main and Ladd in Goldsby. The two accidents snarled traffic from 9 p.m. until midnight Sheriff Deputy Scott Gibbons reported.

Also assisting at the scene was the McClain County Sheriff’s Department and Wadley’s EMS.

The day before at 1:30 p.m., nine miles south of Tecumseh on US. 177, a 26-year-old Byars woman was killed in a similar accident.

The OHP reported a 2014 Nissan Altima, driven by Katelyn R. Teel, 26, of Byars struck the  rear of a 1989 International driven by Hugo Garcia, 46, of Slaughterville.

Teel was pronounced deceased at the scene due to numerous injuries.

A two-year-old female passenger in the vehicle was transported to OU Medical Center by Air Evac and admitted in good condition with internal and external injuries.

Garcia and a passenger in the truck, Brenden L. Jackson, 28, of Stratford were not injured.

The accident remains under investigation, the OHP said.

Gibbons said a suspected drunk driver caused a head-on accident Sunday night when a vehicle crossed over on Adkins Hill Road in Goldsby.

Injuries were reported, the deputy said.
