Last week’s torrential rains have forced the closing of some roads in McClain and adjacent counties.
Several families in rural Blanchard in Grady County were completely cut off from traveling out of their neighborhood when flood waters washed away a large portion of the road out of their area.
District 2 County Commissioners Wilson Lyles reports numerous roadways and crossings have been compromised due to the flooding when just over six inches of rain fell in a five day period in some parts of McClain County.
Lyles specifically mentioned 260th west of Santa Fe and northwest of Washington received damage along with other closures.
“Johnson Road south of SH 39, 220th west of May Avenue and Portland north of 180th both sustained major damage,” he said.
He said, “two roadways underwater that are closed due to flood control lakes backed up include Meridian Avenue north of 150th and 160th east of SH 24.”
“We will work in a timely manner for repairs, some maybe an extended time with the wait for the proper culverts to arrive,” the commissioner said.
“McClain County ask citizens to be extremely cautious and please do not drive around barricaded roadways,” Lyles said.
