Wayne’s Nancy Todd opens Softened Suds in Lexington

For the first time in at least four years, folks in the Heart of Oklahoma don’t have to travel to Noble or even Norman if they need the use of a laundromat.

Nancy Todd and her husband, Jeff moved to Wayne from Tuttle in 2022. Since their new home didn’t have all the appliances hooked up, Nancy had to drive to Norman to do laundry.

This idea has been in the back of her mind since.

“I was a stay-at-home Mom for 30 years but always wanted a business of my own,” Mrs. Todd told The Purcell Register. I just didn’t know what it would be. But now it turns out this is a blessing for others. For it to be a blessing to others, it’s a blessing to me.”

Things just kind of fell into place. Their youngest child graduated from high school last year so she started looking into opening a laundry.

She purchased a building in downtown Lexington from the Massengale family and went to work in October with a dream of opening the business.

“The City of Lexington really believes in me,” she said. “When I gave them my plan I felt like I could not disappoint them.

“I fell in love with the building especially when I found out it was built in 1905,” Mrs. Todd said. “I feel good about being here for the community and I mean for Purcell and Lexington because I think of them as being one community.

The two towns figured that one out when the bridge was closed for 18 months.

“I held on to this idea but figured by the time I got the kids raised there would have already been one put in.”

But still there wasn’t one.

Mrs. Todd did all the work herself and is very proud of the state-of-the-art equipment. She has small washers and dryers for smaller loads and giant washers and dryers for things like comforters and things you can’t take care of at home.

Softened Suds is open seven days a week from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and fully attended.

“The last load of wash has to be in by 8,” she confirmed.

She has attended seminars on operating a laundromat since this is her first crack at owning and operating such a business.

“I built the whole thing, starting in October of 2025 and seven months later was able to open,” she said.

The laundry is located at 102 E. Broadway in Lexington where Mrs. Todd offers full service from washing and drying to folding.

Patrons can drop off and pickup or do self service.

During her interview a young man was leaving with his clean laundry and said he is grateful for the new laundry saying, “Now I don’t have to drive from Lexington to Noble to do laundry.”

The blessings have already started.
