The suspect in the death of a Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) freshman has ties to Purcell.
Cameron Lewis, 18, of Purcell has been arrested in connection with the death of Logan Musil, 18, of Carnegie.
Lewis is incarcerated at the Grady County Jail. He was originally arrested in Weatherford following an investigation by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) and placed in custody of the Custer County Jail.
Musil was reported missing to police the night of September 30.
On October 5, the SWOSU Police Department requested the OSBI to investigate a missing person case.
OSBI special agents, along with local enforcement, began their comprehensive search for Musil.
They found his remains, positively identified by the Chief Medical Examiner, on October 8 in a wooded area near Veteran’s Lake in Sulphur.
Assisting the OSBI in the search were the Murray County Sheriff’s Office, Chickasaw Lighthorse Police Department and the National Park Service.
During their investigation, OSBI special agents learned Musil had been in an altercation with 18-year-old Lewis prior to his death.
After Musil’s body was discovered, a S.W.A.T. team, OSBI agents and Lighthorse Police descended on Lewis’ parent’s house on Van Buren St. October 9 searching for him but did not find anything, according to reports.
Lewis was arrested later that day.
According to authorities, Lewis and Musil met on the SWOSU campus September 12 and traveled to Lewis’ parents house in Purcell.
Lewis told investigators he took Musil to Edmond, dropping him off at a house.
However, phone records did not show they went to Edmond.
Records show Musil’s phone traveled from Purcell to Veteran’s Lake, near where his body was found.
Lewis currently faces a charge of abusing a corpse, but the OSBI is continuing its investigation and other charges are possible.
Lewis attended Purcell High School until mid-term of his junior year 2023-24 when he transferred to EPIC, school officials said.
OSBI spokesman Hunter McKee said Lewis is tribal and will most likely be charged federally in the Western District.
