Statements delayed

Protests of school’s sinking fund

Posted

Emails protesting the sinking fund in the Blanchard School District are delaying McClain County Treasurer Teresa Jones from sending out the annual tax statements.

Emails from Jim Lackey, Steve Vancamp, Gale Gendron and Mark Elden, Jr., were sent to County Assessor Kendal Sacchieri who forwarded them to State Auditor Cindy Byrd’s office.

“It’s going to be at least a week,” Jones said of the timeline for statements to be sent out.

Jones said she needs to hear from court officials that the dismissal was accepted and approved by the Oklahoma Court of Tax Review.

A spokesman for Byrd’s office, Andrew Speno said, “it’s been 10 years since we’ve received this type of tax protest.”

Jones and her staff have been doing some preliminary work on the statements they would have to do prior to sending them out in the mail.

Alexis White, a spokesperson for the Cleveland County District Attorney’s office, said a motion to dismiss has been filed but the matter must go before a judge.
