County Commissioners approved resolution on Monday

McClain County may have a new town and Goldsby a new neighbor.

The Selah housing addition west of Goldsby has petitioned McClain County Commissioners to become a town.

Commissioners voted to approve the petition filed on behalf of the 41 residents of the area at Monday’s regular commissioner meeting.

Election board secretary Karen Haley has been instructed by the commissioners to gather information as to who is eligible to vote, according to commissioner Wilson Lyles.

“If it all falls in line, a special election could be called for by the commissioners,” Lyles reported.

The date of that election would be April 7.

An attorney representing the Selah area and McClain County Assistant District Attorney Leslie March are checking on the matter to make sure everyone is on the same page, according to Lyles.

The township would have three trustees, officials said.
