Washington senior Emjay Lucas completed a perfect game against Casady on Friday, Aug. 25.

She sat down nine batters in order in the 12-0 win for the Warriors, striking out four along the way.

“She threw it really well,” said head coach Tylor Lampkin. “I don’t think Casady even hit a ball out of the infield.”

She threw 34 pitches overall and 24 of them went for strikes.

Offensively, Ava Salcedo went 2-2 with an RBI and a walk. She also scored two runs.

“It’s crazy with her being a freshman and how well she’s playing,” Lampkin said.

Emersyn Massey was also 2-2 with a ribbie and a walk. She scored two runs.

“Emersyn had a great week and caused problems out there,” Lampkin said. “I’m proud of her for being more consistent.”

Lucas doubled in the game while at the plate.

Aside from the perfect game Lampkin wasn’t overly pleased with his team’s play the rest of the week.

“We had a down week, honestly,” he said. “We didn’t perform to our capabilities. We’re having growing pains and we’re trying to figure out how to be in big positions and how to handle those things.”

Lampkin said he’s been using their lighter schedule this week to his advantage by ironing out issues in practice.

“We’ll make adjustments in practice and the light week is what we needed,” Lampkin said. “We’ll get some good practice in.”

The Warriors lost games to Bethel (6-3), Lone Grove (6-0) and Red Oak (7-2).

“They are some really good teams,” Lampkin said. “I feel like we got better in those games, despite the losses.”

The win against Antlers came in the Murray State Festival.

Shelbie Caveness was 1-2 with an RBI ripping triple. She also scored a run.

Salcedo was 3-3 with a triple and two singles and scored twice.

Olivia Palumbo got the win in the circle.

Going forward, Lampkin is looking for his team to take the next step.

“It’s the halfway point of the season and we really need to start getting into the playoff push,” he said.

The Warriors are 13-7 so far this season.
