New high school principal at Washington

Wade Rigney is the new Washington High School principal.

Rigney comes over to the Warrior Nation from Seminole where he has served in administration since 2012. He replaces John Hancock, who moved on to Guthrie Public Schools.

“Mr. Rigney brings with him a wealth of experience and a passion for education that will greatly benefit our school community,” according to Washington Superintendent Chris Reynolds.

Rigney served as assistant high school principal from 2012 to 2020 when he assumed the high school principal role at Seminole.

Mr. Rigney has an impressive resume highlighting his dedication and commitment to education,” Reynolds continued. “As the head principal, he has successfully supervised assistant principals and school staff, developed professional development programs and revised school policies and procedures.

“Mr. Rigney firmly believes in fostering parental involvement and cultivating a positive school culture, emphasizing the importance of strong relationships and academic rigor in the classroom,” Reynolds said.

Prior to his administrative roles, Rigney taught Biological Sciences, AP Biology, Anatomy, Physiology and Biology. He also actively engaged in coaching various sports teams, including high school football, junior high basketball and junior high tennis.

Rigney holds a Master of Education degree from East Central University, specializing in Public School Finance, Curriculum, and Supervision of Instruction. He also earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from ECU. His commitment to ongoing professional development is evident through his participation in various training programs, including Capturing Kids Hearts, FEMA Crisis Management for School-Based Incidents and the Franklin Covey Organization Training.

Throughout his career, Mr. Rigney has been recognized for his outstanding contributions to education. He has received several awards and honors, including Teacher of the Month at Seminole Public Schools and Teacher of the Year at Konawa High School,” Reynolds said.

“I am confident that Mr. Rigney's expertise, dedication and passion for education will greatly benefit Washington High School and our entire school district.
