Much needed rain

Area gets up to 4.75"

The soaking rains on Tuesday through Sunday of last week dumped nearly five inches of rain in Purcell.

Tuesday was by far the wettest day of the four when 2.3” was recorded. Another .7” was recorded Wednesday, .3” on Friday, .8” on Saturday and .65” on Sunday.

That brings the total for the year in Purcell to 35.47” compared to 33.59” in Oklahoma City at Will Rogers World Airport.

The normal year-to-date total for this area is 32.65”.

According to the Oklahoma Mesonet, Washington received 4.07” and Byars 3.43”.

The system that brought the rain here Tuesday ended up being a 77 county rain with the bulk running from southwestern Oklahoma through the central portion up to Osage County.

Following the rain, much cooler temperatures infiltrated the area with several nights of hard freezes. Temperatures were expected to rebound back into the 70s by Sunday and into next Monday.
