Something stinks at the Oklahoma State Department of Education and it all starts at the top.

Where does Ryan Walters get off locking taxpaying citizens out of a state run agency and forcing them to wait in line all night prior to an “open meeting” which he holds in the smallest room he can find that only holds a few folks?

The Oklahoman recently reported that for a third time since last August, House Democrats are calling on House Speaker Charles McCall to create a bipartisan committee to investigate Walters’ department for possible misuse and abuse of federal tax dollars.

It’s that same department that has had all four of its staff attorneys quit.

At its monthly meeting last Thursday Ryan’s department had to rely on an Edmond contract attorney to present legal items to the board.

It’s very curious why the four top attorneys for a major state department have left.

That was not addressed in open session.

The non-transparency of the department led by Walters is cancerous and should be a red flag to every Oklahoma citizen.

The City of Purcell owes a debt of gratitude to two long-time serving city council persons who attended their last regular meeting Monday night at the Community Room of the Purcell Police Service Building.

Ted Cox has served on the city council for the past decade, including a stint as Mayor, while Theda Engert has served for the past seven years.

They will be replaced next Monday when new councilmen Greg Wheat and Joseph Franco are sworn in at 7:30 p.m. at the police service community room.

We thank Mr. Cox and Mrs. Engert for their service.

Others serving on the council include Mayor Graham Fishburn, Jay Tate and Allen Eubanks.
