McClain County’s newest Sheriff Deputy Melvin Mitchell was sworn in this week by Sheriff Landy Offolter.

Mitchell was born in South Carolina but moved to Dallas, where he calls home.

Mitchell has been in law enforcement for 18 months and got into law enforcement to be able to go into different communities, meet new people and learn new perspectives.

“I want to be able to go after real crimes while serving the community,” Mitchell said.

He and his wife and two children live in Moore.

The most rewarding part of his job?

“Seeing smiles on people’s faces and children’s faces in the community and being able to show that I’m here to protect and serve them,” Mitchell continued.

The most challenging part of the job is “dealing with people who break the law and go to great lengths to get away with it,” he concluded.
