Lead up to the playoffs

The Washington Warriors wrapped up the Silo tournament with wins over Durant and Tishomingo.

They had losses against Cyril, Poteau and Silo.

They are fully gearing up for the playoff stretch with only a few games remaining on the schedule before the Regional tournament.

Despite seeing a bunch of new faces in the field this season, their record stands at 18-11.

“We’ve had some growing pains this year and we’re really young,” head coach Tylor Lampkin said. “We’re hoping to get things ironed out before the playoffs.”

Durant

The Warriors got a big lift from Julie Hoehner, who was in the lineup after a lengthy delay.

The freshman went 3-3 with a double and two home runs. She knocked in five of the Warrior’s six runs in the game.

“Getting Julie Hoehner in and her having that big stick in the lineup will help,” Lampkin said.

Ava Salcedo was 2-3 and scored a run.

Shelbie Caveness was 1-3 with an RBI and scored two runs.

Olivia Palumbo struck out seven batters in five innings of work.

Cyril

Emersyn Massey went 2-2 with a walk against Cyril.

Alexis Gay and Emjay Lucas both doubled.

Hoehner went 1-3 with two RBIs.

“Emersyn had a good tournament at the plate,” Lampkin said.

Salcedo started in the circle and struck out seven batters.

Palumbo came in for the final four batters.

Tishomingo

Emjay Lucas doubled against the Indians and drove in one run during the Warriors’ 5-2 win.

Palumbo pitched and struck out five batters while walking one.

Poteau

Massey scored the Warrior’s lone run against the Pirates.

Caveness and Salcedo both hit doubles in the game.

Emjay Lucas struck out three batters in four innings.

“We’ve been struggling with too many free bases from pitching,” Lampkin said. “We’ve been behind in counts and we’ll bounce back from that.”

Silo

The Warriors played Silo Saturday and fell 5-2.

They didn’t get much going in the way of offense with two hits.

“We’ve been getting plenty of people on base we’re just not scoring many runs,” Lampkin said.

JV

The Washington JV team was also in the tournament and played in four games.

“They had a good showing and gained some experience,” Lampkin said. The team stayed the night down there and we got some good team bonding. It was a good time.”

Washington is slated to play Purcell today at (Thursday).
