Despite nearly matching Fletcher in hits, Wayne dropped a 10-2 loss on Monday night.

Senior Faith Brazell was in the circle and she was dealing. She pitched more than 70% strikes and fanned nine batters. She gave up six hits and just three earned runs.

Fletcher capitalized on Wayne’s six errors.

Fletcher took a 1-0 lead after one inning. Wayne tied it up with a run of their own in the top of the third.

But, Fletcher added another run in the bottom of the third and five more in the bottom of the fourth.

The Lady Bulldogs got one more run back in the top of the sixth. But, Fletcher added three insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth to pick up the win.

Asher Tournament

Late last week, Wayne was in Asher where they finished second in the tournament after a 10-2 loss to Stratford in the Championship game.

“I’m astronomically proud of the team. We had to play four games in brutal heat through the loser’s bracket and they had great attitudes and wanted to be there and fight,” head coach Nikki Herrin said.

Brazell accounted for Wayne’s two hits in the loss.

To kick off the tournament, Wayne got an 8-0 win over Wapanucka.

Brazell stuck out nine batters in the circle.

She and Jordynn Debaets led the team with two hits.

That win was followed by a 2-1 loss to Asher.

Wayne picked up two more wins, 3-1 over Konawa and 5-4 over Allen.

Then Wayne faced Asher again and picked up the 4-2 win sending them to the championship game.

Freshman Addison Clagg started the Allen and second Asher games. She had six strikeouts total and walked two batters.

“Addison really helped us out. Her pitching is different from Faith’s and she gave us a different look and did excellent.

“I’m really proud of her. She had never had a high school start before those games,” Herrin said.

The Lady Bulldogs finished the Asher win with four hits, two from Brazell and one apiece from Taelyn Ringwald and Debaets.

Wayne jumped out in front with four runs in the top of the first inning.

Asher got one run back in both the second and third, but Wayne’s defense held them to just two runs to get the win.

Debaets and Audra Watts each had one RBI.

The Lady Bulldogs hosted Springer on Tuesday.

“I’m excited to give some fresh faces some in-game experence against Springer. There are lots of girls who have what it takes and I hope they do well.”

They were scheduled to host Wilson on Thursday and that game was canceled.

Wayne will host Asher on Friday.

Notes

Junior Addison Keeler was a big help in Wayne’s Asher tournament games.

“Addison was clutch for us in big moments,” Herrin said.
