Families from Lexington, Purcell, Wayne, Washington and surrounding communities are invited to Kids at Play Day on Saturday, October 17, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Purcell Lake Park.
Thanks to a $1,000 microgrant from the Kiwanis Children’s Fund, everyone can join the fun free of charge.
Created especially for elementary and intermediate-aged youth, with plenty for younger children and high schoolers too, the afternoon will turn playtime into a chance to learn, explore and make new connections.
Families can enjoy supervised free play and welcoming hands-on stations that encourage movement, curiosity, teamwork and positive social interaction.
By engaging in age-appropriate learning-through-play activities, children can pick up helpful lessons about everyday topics. They can also jump into a special challenge course devised by the Purcell High School Key Club, where physical activity, problem-solving and cooperation come together for plenty of smiles and fun.
Raffle prizes will bring even more excitement to the afternoon and give participants something extra to look forward to. Local students will be on hand to lead games, challenges and learning stations, sharing their energy and creativity while serving younger children in the community.
“We are so grateful to the Kiwanis Children’s Fund for helping us welcome families to Kids at Play Day at no cost,” said Kelsey Harlan, Secretary of the Kiwanis Club of the Heart of Oklahoma. “We want every child to feel included and have the chance to move, learn and build confidence while spending a joyful afternoon with friends, family members and positive role models.”
“The challenge course created by the Purcell High School Key Club is a wonderful example of young people bringing creativity, teamwork and a heart for service to children in our community,” said Belinda Journey, President of the Kiwanis Club of the Heart of Oklahoma. “Alongside Purcell Parks & Recreation and the Community Alliance of Resources for Everyone – C.A.R.E., we can’t wait to welcome families for an afternoon that is active, friendly and meaningful for everyone.”
The Kiwanis Children’s Fund supports local service projects that help children and young people thrive. Its generous grant covers event costs, making it possible for every child and family to take part free of charge while enjoying activities connected to health, education and youth leadership.
Gather the family, invite a friend and come spend a fun-filled afternoon with us at Purcell Lake Park on October 17 from 2 to 5 p.m. There will be something for everyone to enjoy—and thanks to the Kiwanis Children’s Fund, it’s all free.
