Prominent Purcell attorney Greg Dixon died November 17 after a brief battle with cancer.
With his passing, the City of Purcell, McClain County and Central Oklahoma lost a true servant.
Dixon was known as a family man’s family man and very much a man of God.
He led multiple Bible studies over the years, including The Stand Bible Study Group.
A true servant, Dixon was active in many organizations including Sooner Brotherhood, Rotary International and the Heart of Oklahoma Chamber of Commerce.
Dixon was the kind of guy who could light up a room, and almost always did.
He always met others with a Hail-fellow-well-met greeting that was usually followed by a bear-hug and a pat on the back.
Dixon served Purcell in many areas in numerous positions, most recently as the City Attorney.
He practiced law in Purcell and Norman for many years, sandwiched around a stint as District Judge for Cleveland, McClain and Garvin Counties from 2011 to 2015.
He served as a Supervising District Judge for McClain and Garvin Counties.
When he returned to private practice, he became a partner at Nichols Dixon Law.
A gifted athlete from Checotah High School, Dixon lettered all four years at The University of Oklahoma on the Sooner football team that won three Conference Championships and one National Championship.
He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and then earned a Juris Doctorate law degree from OU in 1994.
Greg had an infectious laugh and treated many, many friends like they were part of his very own family.
The loss of a public servant like Greg Dixon leaves a huge void for the area.
