Homecoming time in Wayne

Crooked Oak visits for 7 p.m. kickoff

Posted

The Crooked Oak RUF-NEX pay a visit the D.S. Zack Powell Field Friday night in a homecoming showdown with the Bulldogs.

Coronation is set for 6:30 p.m. before the 7 p.m. kickoff.

Crooked Oak (0-2) is coached by Thad Cunningham.

The best way to sum up the RUF-NEX is athletic.

“As a group, they’ve got the best set of receivers that we’ve seen,” Wayne head coach Brandon Sharp said. “They’re really athletic.”

Sharp said they also have good quarterback play to go along with the receivers.

“They play two quarterbacks,” Sharp said. “One is a big guy who runs well. The other is a good runner and thrower.”

The Crooked Oak offense will try to spread out the defense with doubles and trips open and run the inside zone up the gut.

“We’ll have to play sound defense and do a better job on offense than we have the last couple weeks.”

Lexington

Wayne fell to Lexington 21-0 last Friday.

The ‘Dawgs put up touchdowns in the first, third and fourth quarters.

With the game sitting at 7-0 at halftime Wayne was set to receive the ball to begin the second half.

But untimely mistakes and penalties killed a promising drive to tie the game up.

“We kind of got big played again,” Sharp said. “The defense didn’t play bad, they just missed some assignments that were costly.”

Senior Eli Hobson led the team in tackles with 11. He also had two sacks.

Casey Kane had six tackles and one sack.

Duke Moore registered four tackles and two sacks.

Braden McClendon had three tackles and a sack while freshman Eli Stottlemyre had an interception.

Notes

Wayne head coach Brandon Sharp nominated Eli Hobson for Defensive Player of the Week.

Homecoming coronation is at 6:30 p.m.
