Friend saves friend’s life

10 miles east of Lexington on SH 39

Miraculously, Robby Dodd saved the life of Marvin Barton, 74, at 9:45 a.m. Saturday, November 16, 2024.

On State Highway 39 about 10 miles east of Lexington, Marvin, a friend of Robby, was on his front-end loader with a long, discarded tin-horn in the shape of V loaded on to salvage and move up the road to his house.

All was well when Robby drove by him.

Robby was waiting for his mother, Joeann Dodd, to get ready to go eat and had minutes to spare, so turned around and went up the road to check on a deer stand he was building.

On 180th he circled the house and was returning to get his mother when he approached the accident.

He already had a premonition that something was wrong.

The tin-horn had fallen backward, crushing and trapping Marvin while still on the tractor.

To God be the Glory and with the help of God, Robby jumped out of his car rushed to the lifeless, unconscious Marvin (who appeared dead) and lifted the heavy tin-horn off of him, dialed 911, and proceeded to pull Marvin off the tractor.

In three to five minutes, he heard a sound of life.

Soon Marvin became combative while Robby was trying to comfort him and calm him down.

Once on the ground, Robby struggled to position him, holding up his head, trying to keep his bleeding head out of the dirt.

He called his mother to explain his lateness. They both fervently prayed. Finally, a man from a nearby fire department arrived to assist and then other fire departments and a host of medics, law enforcement and  support persons.

Wadley’s EMS from Purcell carefully stabilized and loaded Marvin in an ambulance and waited for the arrival of the helicopter.

Robby immediately got in his car and went up the hill to inform Marvin's wife, Sheila.

Joeann joined them, comforted her and drove her to the scene. The helicopter landed on SH 39 in front of the Rose Hill Church and took him to OU Trauma at OU Health Science Center.

Traffic was backed up in all directions for quite a while.

The couple expresses much thankfulness and gratitude to all the responders and ask for your prayers for Marvin's long-road to recovery.

He has a broken sternum, all of his ribs are broken, he had surgery to insert a pin in his broken little finger and other injuries.

They are calling Robby their hero and angel.  To God be the Glory!
