Purcell pocketed three more victories with wins over Ada, Dibble and Pauls Valley.

The Dragons were scheduled to host Madill for a double header Tuesday to close out the first round of district play.

They will turn around to start round two today (Thursday) at home against Plainview.

For the season, Purcell was 13-1 and 6-0 in district play heading into the Madill games.

Coach Sarah Jones’ Dragons topped Ada on the road August 22, 6-4, out-hitting the Cougars 9-7.

KK Vazquez, Savanna Edwards and Brynley Jennings all had doubles in the game.

Vazquez was 2-4 while Jennings and Edwards were both 2-3. Jennings led the team with three RBIs. Edwards had a pair of RBIs.

Kailynn Helton and Lili Del Toro split time in the circle.

“Each game they keep getting better,” Jones said. “We switched some things up on defense. Rosie Smith did well behind the plate and Mac (McKay) got to see the field from a different angle in a while playing third and doing well.

“We made things happen at the plate and we did a pretty good job of making sure they left people on base,” Jones said.

McKay, Hadleigh Harp and Rosie Smith all had hits in the game.

Purcell got a little later start last Thursday at Dibble and the extra inning game progressed well into the night.

Dibble scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to knot the score at seven all sending the contest into an extra frame.

Purcell shifted its offense into overdrive in the top of the eighth pushing across 11 runs and won the contest 18-9.

Jennings was 4-5 in the game with two RBIs. Vazquez had five RBIs in a 3-5 outing that included a double and a triple. Ella Resendiz went 3-5, including a home run, and had a pair of RBIs and Hadleigh Harp was 3-4 with a run batted in.

Hannah Whitaker had a pair of hits while Edwards, Payci Constant and Kenna Esparza adding hits.

“Dibble has new lights that are operated by an app and are set to automatically shut off at 10 p.m. Well, mid-pitch that happened. After turning them back on we scored a few more runs for cushion and held on for the win,” Jones said.

The Dragons put another district victory in their pockets at home Monday against Pauls Valley with a 12-0 run-rule victory over the Panthers.

A well-rested Resendiz mowed down the Panthers from the circle fanning five and allowing only a single hit in five innings of work.

“Ella came out ready to go on the mound after being out of the circle for a week. She was well rested, allowed no walks and only pitched 51 pitches. Defense and offense definitely had her back. We hit up and down our lineup,” the coach said.

Edwards, Constant and Esparza all went 2-3. Vazquez went 2-4 including a home run. Purcell out-hit Paul Valley 11-1.
