The Bulldogs notched their 16th win with a 16-0 win over Little Axe on Monday night.

The Bulldogs had nine hits led by Drew Dierking who went 3-3 at the plate with three hits and three RBIs.

James McMillan had two hits and four RBIs.

Zeke Faulkenberry pitched five innings. He gave up zero runs and struck out five batters.

“We hit the ball well and Zeke did great on the mound. I think he gave up one hit. Overall, I’m happy with how we played,” head coach Matt Dierking said.

Santa Fe South tournament

The Lexington Bulldogs picked up five wins last week, including three in the Dawgs of the South tournament at Santa Fe South.

They beat Wellston 17-1 in their first game, won 9-1 over Destiny Christian and then 2-1 over the OKC Mets when their game was cancelled in the eighth inning due to weather.

Senior Dierking was named the tournament MVP.

He finished the tournament with six hits and seven RBIs, including a grand slam in Lexington’s win over Wellston.

Wellston

The Bulldogs amassed 15 hits and scored 17 runs in their win over Wellston.

“It was an all-around good effort from everyone,” Dierking said.

Zeke Faulkenberry finished the game with four hits while Colby Haynes, McMillan and Dierking each had two.

Haynes singled in the first inning to get the Bulldogs on the board.

They added six runs in the second inning to stretch their lead. Faulkenberry singled, Haynes walked and Dierking hit a grand slam.

Lexington added one run in the third and one in the fourth.

They broke it open in the fifth inning when they scored eight more runs.

Haynes pitched three and two-thirds innings. He struck out two, walked two and gave up two hits.

Ryan Johnson came on in relief and struck out two batters.

Destiny Christian

In their second win of the tournament, Lexington scored nine runs on 12 hits.

Senior Skylar Rollins was a perfect 3-3 at the plate. He also had two RBIs.

Faulkenberry and Buddy Cormany finished the game with two hits. Haynes, Dierking, McMillan, Johnson and Hunter Olson had one hit each.

Dierking was on the mound for five innings. He struck out four batters and gave up one run on six hits.

Lexington had seven stolen bases in the win.

“We’ve gotten more aggressive on the basepaths. I’m not a big fan of base running mistakes, but as they’ve gotten more confident, we’ve been stealing more,” Dierking said.

OKC Mets

In a tight championship game, Lexington and OKC were held scoreless through five innings.

Both teams pushed one run across in the sixth inning.

With it knotted at 1-1 in the top of the eighth, Faulkenberry singled to score the go-ahead run.

And that’s when the game was called. Severe storms were blowing through and the game ended abruptly.

“The conditions were horrible. The wind was howling and we were sent in a lightning delay that turned into the game being canceled.”

Lexington was named co-champions with the OKC Mets.

The Bulldogs finished the game with eight hits led by Faulkenberry and Dierking’s two.

Rollins pitched six and one-thirds innings. He struck out four and allowed one run on four hits.

Faulkenberry came on in relief for two-thirds an inning.

Marietta

Last Tuesday, Lexington had a double header with Marietta. They won both games (12-9, 13-3).

Through two games Lexington had 19 hits and 19 RBIs.

Faulkenberry was credited with the win in the first game as he came on in relief.

He had four strikeouts and gave up two runs on four hits.

Rollins pitched all six innings of the second game. He struck out three and allowed three runs on four hits.

The Bulldogs were set to host Konawa on Tuesday. They will be in the Heart of Oklahoma baseball tournament starting Thursday in Purcell.

Lexington plays Crossing Christian at 3 p.m.
