5 questions with Jerry and Jennifer VanWinkle

Posted

Editor’s note: Answering  The Purcell Register’s five questions this week are Jerry and Jennifer VanWinkle, owners of the Pick Me, Pick Me Too in Purcell, an antique/craft/collectible shop.

Q. How did you get into the antique/craft/collectible business?

A. My grandmother had a wood cook stove she cooked on her whole life. I loved it. I’ve always wanted to live in a Pioneer age as for crafts. Crafting is in my blood. I don’t ever remember not crafting something. My first collection was my little Golden Books. I’m still working on collecting the first ones from 1 to 600 are a few special things.

Q. How do you aquire your merchandise?

A. We love traveling all over searching for treasures. Yard sales,   junk stores,  estate sales. One of the best things is just telling people what we do, and that person knows someone who just wants to get rid of stuff.

Q. Do you have to spend a lot of time getting things ready to sell?

A. There is not enough time in a day to do all that is needed to be done.

Q. Do you ever find it hard to let any of your pieces go?

A. My husband wouldn’t let anything go if it wasn’t for me.

Q. What’s the most fabulous item you’ve ever found?

A. I don’t have just one favorite, but my passion is to get an early 1900s workable kitchen.
