The Heart of Oklahoma baseball tournament starts today. CCS, Stratford, Lindsay, Asher, Crossings Christian, Lexington and Little Axe round out the field.

The Dragons play Little Axe in their first game today (Thursday) at 12:30 p.m.

Last week the Dragons split games with Cache. They got the 6-5 win on Tuesday, but dropped a 6-2 decision on Wednesday.

Cache

In their win over the Bulldogs, Deaken Dobbins got the start and both Kash Knowles and Parker Page came on in relief.

“I thought, overall, our pitching was good. Parker got credited for the win because we took the lead when he came in,” head coach Cole Sharp said.

Boston Knowles was 3-4 at the plate, including a double. Cooper Selman was 1-1.

“Boston hit the ball really well. Jett Tyler, Cooper and Bryce Blair all had hits too.”

Dobbins had five strikeouts on the mound.

“Overall, I was proud of our guys battling back from being down five runs,” Sharp said.

Down 5-0 through three innings, the Dragons battled back scoring two in the third, one in the fifth and two in the sixth to tie it up.

“We won on a weird play where Jett had an infield pop fly but they dropped it and we scored the winning run.

“That was an important win for our district standings,” Sharp said.

In their second meeting, the Bulldogs won 6-2.

“We couldn’t get timely hits when we needed them, but Cache was able to when they had their chances,” Sharp said.

The Dragons had four hits in the loss. Knowles led the team at the plate, going 2-4. Page and Blair each had a hit.

“Our hitting was quiet for the majority of the game. Boston has been hitting the ball well for us the last couple of weeks and we’ll need that from him here on out,” Sharp said.

Page got the start for the Dragons on the mound.

“Parker had his first start since coming back from injury. He did a good job throwing strikes and making them hit it.”

He finished with two strikeouts.

Blair came on in relief for one and one-third inning.

Little Axe

Last Thursday, the Dragons collected 10 hits on the way to an 11-0 win over the Indians.

“I was proud of the way we competed and got after it. We jumped on them early and never looked back,” Sharp said.

Dobbins was 3-3 at the plate with three RBIs. Seven Dragons had one hit – Knowles, Page, Blair, Tyler, Cash Cook, Cole Smedley and Kash Knowles.

Page, Blair and Smedley each had two ribbies.

“Hitting-wise, we did well. We had good approaches at the plate and did a good job of putting the ball in play.”

Boston Knowles got the start. He struck out six batters in three innings of work. Preston Kane came on in relief. He had one strike out. They combined for a no-hitter.
